End of Year, New Music

Maddi Frick’s Top 5 TV/ Film Music Syncs of 2015

In between watching all ten seasons of ‘Friends’ and all nine seasons of ‘X-Files,’ I did watch some new material from this year. Here are my Top 5 TV/ Film Music Syncs of 2015, in no particular order.

Theme song of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

An ode to the ‘Bed Intruder Song,’ the theme song to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is GUARANTEED to get stuck in your head while bingeing this original Netflix series.

Bikini Kill in ‘Orange is the New Black’

When Red makes it back into the prison kitchen, ‘Rebel Girl’ gave the scene a fist-pumping energy. Also, did you know the actress who plays Silent Norma was in a punk rock band in the 70’s?

Ananda Shankar in ‘Master of None’

‘Master of None’ is my favorite new show of the year. I recognize myself in too many characters. My favorite episode is ‘Parents’ featuring Aziz Ansari’s actual parents playing themselves. My favorite sync from the series is Ananda Shankar’s cover of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ over the opening credits for “Indians on TV.”

‘Uptown Girl’ theme in ‘Trainwreck’

Weaved into the film ‘Trainwreck,’ the Billy Joel track made multiple appearances, sweetly tying the plot together at the end. Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence even appeared at Billy Joel’s concert in Chicago this summer.

Amy Winehouse performing at The Grammys in 2008

‘Amy’ left me crying in the movie theater. It was difficult watching her life fall apart, including her 2008 Grammy performance before winning Record of the Year.
